There’s a lot of new readers so I think it’s time for a reminder or familiarization post.

Why Are We Here

The internet and Covid has changed the world.

Your boss and company, no matter how nice, doesn’t care about your future. Your government doesn’t care about you or your future. Nobody outside of a few family members and select friends care about you. They only really care about themselves.

You are the only one that can save yourself and make your life what you want it.

Single player. Just you.

Now there’s a few trends that aren’t going away.

• Remote work is here to stay. This frees up an enormous amount of free time. You now have a choice of how you spend that time.

• Outsourcing is coming more and more. If you can do your job from your bedroom, someone on the other side of the world can do your job for 1/4 of the price. There’s very few of you that are actually immune. You’re probably not the exception.

• Automation is here to stay. If your job isn’t outsourced, management is going to try to automate your job. Over the next 10-15 years, you’re going to be surprised at the amount of jobs that will be automated.

• Higher costs for everything with your same salary. Yay inflation!

So what’s the solution?

This could be a few avenues.

1. Work for yourself. This could be anything. The point being is you want to get out of corporate America and do your own thing. Control your own destiny.

2. Build up a side hustle for extra money to invest. Let’s say you’re actually happy with your career long term and you won’t get automated/outsourced away. An extra $500 or $5000 a month will make you that much happier.

The potential for upside is limitless compared to a career.

The Benefits of WiFi Money

Even if you only get to the point where you’re making what you’re currently making at your job:

• You can sell that business at a multiple.

• You don’t have the risk of a bad boss or unforeseen situation taking you to zero.

• You can live *wherever* you want. You’re not expected to be a few time zones away from your company.

• You can create your own schedule. More time with family or doing whatever you want.

• More money to invest/build.

• Reduce stress. You can’t be too stressed about losing your job if you’ll be fine without it.

• Scale your time.

• Freedom.

• More money overall.

It’s not going to be easy. Anybody that tells you it is got extremely lucky or is lying to you.

Read this over and over until you get it. Read it again and again every few weeks.

You’re going to have to really sacrifice for a few years. You’re going to have to quit doing some things you enjoy temporarily to make time for building/learning. You’re going to feel stupid. You’re going to feel like a failure. You’re going to feel like an imposter. You’re going to miss some family activities. You’re going to have to cut people off.

You’re not going to know what’s going on with pop culture. You’re not going to be able to watch your favorite sports team. Your health will likely take a hit temporarily.

There will be tears. There will be self doubt. There will be pain.

You’ll likely fail on your first, second, third, or fourth venture.

This is normal. Everyone successful at anything experiences the above for a few years.

Grow up and deal with it.

BUT if you actually double down and build. It’ll be worth it in the end.

Now that we’re all on the same page. What should you do?

The Plan

I’ve laid out the plan pretty nicely in the article on WiFi Money. But to recap.

1. Get a WFH gig if you can

2. Build an online business

3. Invest that money into your business

WFH Gig

I hated WFH. Especially with kids. Now that I have my setup, I am eternally grateful for making this decision. (I worked in the office through most of Covid)

I’m not going to sit here and espouse the benefits of WFH. They should be obvious now. If they’re not, the biggest benefit is having 2-3 more hours a day to work on your side hustle.

If you are in the office for more than 2 days a week, look to get another job.

Online Business

The longer this Substack goes on, the more I realize that people need to setup a services business first. Most don’t have the money, experience, timeline, or patience to jump straight into ecommerce or affiliate marketing.

This could be selling services online or to IRL businesses. You’ll likely make higher margins with IRL businesses though.

There’s an almost infinite number of ways to make money online though. Get creative and start looking at everything you see as a business. How do they make money and what angle could you take to do something similar?

The point is that you need to find something. Anything. And start building now.

Invest

Your absolute best investment is going to be in your business.

Businesses sell at a multiple. Let’s go really low and call it 3X. If you can invest $10,000 into your business and it *only* increases your profit by $5,000/yr… A *negative 50%* ROI in year 1… At a 3X multiple, you’ve increased your business value by $15,000 in year 1. A positive 50% ROI in year 1.

If you can get the full $10,000/yr back in year 1, you’ve increased your business value by $30,000. A 200% return on your money.

Let’s say you never plan on selling, at a negative 50% ROI in year 1, you still come out ahead of stocks after 2.42 years. (assuming average historical gains of 10%)

If there’s leftover that you can’t invest with a decent return, then invest in stocks/crypto.

I currently have enough guides written to get you started in just about any online business. The basics will take your further than you think they will.

In the future, I’ll still be writing about some of the basics in new ways. Whatever I’ve missed or what you all are interested in.

I’ll be analyzing how other businesses make their money to help you with ideation of your venture.

I’m also considering taking on a few more clients on and writing about how to get different businesses off the ground or accelerated. While not completely digital, potential upcoming clients of mine run IRL businesses doing landscaping/consulting/local services.

Lastly, if you’re starting or have a small business that you’re trying to get traction, leave a comment or reach out once you’ve started. I won’t answer 100 “hypothetical business” questions.
