Better to start with SEO site or a SaaS business? Can program, don't enjoy marketing or content writing so SaaS appears to be a fit. But love the aspect that SEO is answering existing traffic questions/topics and appeals to my algorithmic brain of hunting for long tail keywords. And if I hate marketing am I just going to build a SaaS with no customers...

Getting stuck chasing shiny objects and wanting to pursue both, which is just wasting everyone's time.

Ser, would be keen to know how to choose SaaS or SEO/content site?

If you can build a SaaS, there's going to be more money in that. But if you think you can build a SaaS with no content writing or marketing... You're preparing yourself for a lack of customers.

Also, there's no such thing as starting an SEO site. There's websites, which should all have an SEO focus, with different monetization methods. Building an affiliate site and a site for a SaaS business is the same concept. In an affiliate site, you're trying to get them to click on links then purchase. SaaS site - trying to get them to purchase your product.

Both types of business models will require you to rank the site, build content, and build links for inbound traffic.

Thanks for that - I personally like the idea of SaaS as the product, but then I'm effectively doing both customer acquisition and development.

I suspect I just want to scratch my technical itch/doing what I like, instead of focusing on what truly matters (building a business). I need to get out of that headspace and just get clients to tell me what they want.

Thanks for the responses.

When (if ever) would you delete old non-performing content?

I used to be of the mind to delete old non performing content. I'm no longer of that mind unless the content no longer semantically fits your niche. I think over the past few years, Google has shifted more towards semantics, aka "topical authority", so deleting any content that fits your topic is likely a bad idea.

I think a better way about it is to rewrite/refresh/add to the non performing content, build more internal links and resubmit it to Google.
