Welcome to Shopify 101 Part 1. This will be a solid reference guide to be able to wrap your head around what everything means and where everything is located. Some of this is going to be a repeat of the
I have a wordpress/woo store cuz im in the hemp space, but thinking of switching to Shopify. We are bringing in an meta Ads agency (BowTiedIndoRex) who specializes in this space and they said that Shopify does not really boot Hemp companies anymore unless your doing some whack stuff. Has that been your experience recently? Thanks
New subscriber here. Based in HK with access to a lot of cheap electronics and basically anything. Thinking of building a parallel imports business on Shopify, and are consuming your content with fervor. Any advice is very much welcome!
You're going to have a lot more luck selling on Amazon/Ebay/Walmart as you don't have to create your own demand. You just have to capture the demand that's already there.
Shopify is better used to build a brand. If there's already a market for the exact products, the marketplaces will be a better place for you to start.
Sorry for the delay, thank you very much for the feedback. What do you think about a situation where you're re-selling existing brands, and price arbitraging different markets. Aka if you were able to buy 'insert famous brand' headphones in HK for cheaper than an wholesaler in the USA, and then ship them. I take your point around marketplaces vs. BYO, but marketplaces seem quite 'busy' for famous brand products?
Same response as above. The marketplaces are "busy" but if you build up shipping history and can undercut price, you win the buy box on Amazon leading to huge demand even if there's other sellers.
You best bet in this hypothetical situation is to created an Amazon account and do FBA. If you can't do FBA for whatever reason, go to Ebay.

Also, if you live remotely close to a city and know woodworking, you could start a woodworking business. From a consumer perspective they're hard to find, easy to rank for and drive traffic (local seo), and can charge insane rates. (I literally just spent thousands of dollars on a custom piece that I could have done myself if I had the tools or time)
Hell, if you went this route, you could start a blog and socials detailing your experience building a woodworking business (build in public) and turn it into an online and in person business with multiple revenue channels.
- Affiliate
- Local clients
- Remote clients
- Ecom store for work that's less custom
Your channels would be
- Local seo
- SEO - focusing on random kw's
- Twitter (build in public)
- Instagram/TikTok showcasing your work and how it's made
Yeah you can but you would pass more traffic between all of the properties and make more money by having them all be part of the same group. I don't know what you do for a living but that seems like an easy one to pass off as a hobby to your boss and colleagues.
